So, it has been quite a while since I updated, as I keep hearing from a certain friend of mine. So, here is the abridged version of my life for the past few months:

Bad stuff:
1)Law school applications constantly looming over my head

Adrienne's Brain: Hey! You need to work on those applications
Adrienne's General Idiocy: Oh yeah. I will do that soon.
Adrienne's Brain: If you are not going to ensure that you have some semblance of a future, you should at LEAST catch up on some homework.
Adrienne's General Idiocy: Hmmm...how about a nap first??

2)The ruining of things that didn't require it (could be more specific, but those who have heard it don't want to anymore, and those who haven't are DEFINITELY not interested)

Adrienne's Brain: This is a bad idea...you should just go home and reconsider what you are about to say
Adrienne's General Idiocy: (screws stuff up)

3)Classes I never should have taken

Prof: Well, Adrienne, I think what we have here is a failure to communicate.
Adrienne's General Idiocy: (cries)

Shouldn't have taken it because I SHOULD be taking one more Spanish class and GRADUATING in December. But I didn't have my ducks in a row last spring when I was figuring things out. Oh well.

So that's all the bad. But wait, there's more...GOOD THINGS!:

1)My baby brother lives in Nashville now!!! Which is much fun, cause we get to go to dinner together and stuff, and Joel is almost always up for pizza, because that is the kind of brother he is. Turns out he is a cool kid, and willing to put up with the goofy crap I do (prancing down the street to Michaelangelo's and dancing [flailing] wildly in the car when I pick him up at the Belmont campus, por ejemplo)
(ooo--Bad Thing 4)Roommates think he is HOT, and all the time ask when he is coming over and stuff--way gross)

2)Just worked out a schedule for next semester, and things look pretty good--I get to take classes with profs. that I know I like, and only one can't be taken pass/fail should the need arise. PLUS, I think I am going to get a J-O-B in the spring--perhaps teaching LSATs for Kaplan or something equally awesome...

3)Going to be living where I wanted to from the beginning next semester--Though it will be hard to leave behind my KING-SIZED bed, it will be most excellent to live near all my buddies with only ONE other person in the bathroom/kitchen/common area. PLUS, that one other person is Anne, who is generally way cool.

4)Almost Christmas--I am about to DIE of no break. I don't count Thanksgiving as break, because I am going to be stuck at school for four days and I need to be doing work during that time anyway. But CHRISTMAS--that is a break.

5)Turns out I am the queen of accidentally finding places. Never ceases to amaze Joeybaby how I can get someplace with nothing but sheer dumb luck to guide me. Plus, it's always a pleasant surprise for yours truly:)

6)Already looking forward to Colorado next summer--IF I can survive the rest of this year.

I think that is all...more good than bad, as per usual. I hope that girlnamedmaria's pain will be eased ;)

Monday: Still sleepy from Spring Break. Still wishing I was on Spring Break. Surprised to find out that I have papers to write and exams to take in the near future. Watched Black Robe, a film about Jesuits in Canada, for my Iberian Empire class. What's that you say? Canada wasn't really part of the Iberian Empire? This is true, but the movie was meant (I believe) to demonstrate the plight of the Jesuits all over the Americas. And also to nearly make me SICK, because at one point a woman is shot through the NECK with an ARROW, and they don't warn you that it's coming with musical cues or anything so that you can hide your eyes. Booo, makers of Black Robe. Made my stomach turn.
Wednesday: St. Patrick's Day Party!! Because Kristin was going to New York, we celebrated early, with green cake, green punch, and green tea ice cream (which was sort of mixing ethnicities, yes, but it was both green and delicious, so it was okay)(Now that I look at the word "ethnicities," I am not so certain that it exists...) There were also really great decorations:

I'm a specialist--what can I say?
Thursday: Actual St. Patrick's day. Wore green until after I worked out, because the weather changed and it was too warm for my green sweater. Went to a place called "McDoogle's" for dinner, which wasn't precisely Irish, but it did have the prefix "Mc" the name, so it was decided that that was good enough.
Friday: Dave Barnes and Andy Davis live and in concert! Much fun, except that SOME people thought that Chili's would be better for dinner than delicious Mellow Mushroom pizza, which is categorically untrue; Chili's is much less good and much less psychedelic than Mellow Mushroom. So I had Lucky Charms for dinner, which isn't as bad as it may sound to some, because I really like Lucky Charms. Party afterward--Adrienne is not so much into the "partying" of late, but she chatted with some very nice kids.
Saturday: Was going to be super-cool and awesome and change Britt's tire, but the lug nuts were rusted tight, and we couldn't budge them. Nor could the boys we called to help us. Fortunately, some lady came by and loaned us her Triple-A fellow, who managed. Was supposed to work out after changing the tire, but that took longer than expected, so I had a late lunch of pizza instead--pretty sure the two activities are nearly equivalent. Went to the bookstore and picked up Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose for history class, even though "The Name of the Rose" sounds like it should be the title of some Goth kid's website...I will most likely name my fourth-born son "Umberto," after Hamish and the other ones who I can't remember right now. About to read and find some fooood, even though it is nearly eleven o'clock at night, and I should be in bed soon.

Saturday night: first legal drinks ever.
Sunday: El Rastro. I bought several things, and didn't have my pockets picked. Then we went to El Buen Retiro, where a man had trained WILD PIGEONS to land all over him, kind of like that lady in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Also, there was a Drum Circle next to the lake, where a bunch of men played the drums and some crazy lady danced. She was at least as entertaining as the drums. We had a picnic and ate CHEESE POPSICLES! Which were surprisingly not bad...

Monday Went to the Reina Sofia. First, however, I went to the Prado to see if the t-shirt man was there so I could get my dad a t-shirt from the Universidad. He wasn't, but a whole bunch of police were. Wasn't sure why until a car with flags on it pulled up and some people got out--that's right, the ROYAL FAMILY. Or at least, that's who I decided it was. (Famous Person (People) Sighting #1) Saw a bunch of modern art...Picasso, Miro, and such. Picasso's horses=really weird:

Tuesday:"It's real gold...feel how heavy it is" The Prado, only this time, I saw the inside. Lots more art--older stuff this time. Most exciting: On the way home, I see a woman passing the other way pick something up off the sidewalk. She shows it to me--it's a gold ring. We both shrug and make non-commital noises about how it might have ended up on the sidewalk and continue on. Then she yells back to me, gets my attention, and proceeds to demonstrate how the ring is no good to her because it doesn't fit her fingers. She puts it on every finger so that I can see this. Then she puts it in my hand. I insist that I don't want it, but she tells me I should have it because it's really gold and she is a widow, or something like that (she is saying all of these things in Spanish, so I am editorializing somewhat). I finally accept the ring, and we continue again. Then, "Senora! Senora!" She wanted money for food. The fact that I didn't see this coming sooner is one of the greatest testaments ever to my general oblivion. Well I gave her a few Euros, because at this point, I was too far in to back out, and of course, she wanted more--she had just given me a real gold ring, after all. I explained to her that I didn't speak Spanish, and she didn't care, she just wanted my money, and she knew that I understood at least that much. After some haggling, we parted ways, and I was slightly bewildered by the entire exchange, until I realized that I now owned GYPSY GOLD (Famous Person Sighting #2 (okay, so Gypsies don't count as famous, exactly, but I wanted to see some, so close enough)). After this realization, I was really excited, even though certain naysayers seem to think that my acquisition is cursed.
WednesdayTurkish Baths....never have I had so much circulation all at once. Had a lazy day--did some reading, relaxed. Unfortunately, all that relaxing was COMPLETELY undone in our mad dash for the bus to Sevilla. Made it by the skin of our teeth.
Thursday: I've got Musul-MANIA!! or "I'm in Para-DISE" El Alcazar= very cool stuff. Learned about the Sevillian Holy Week celebrations inside, and hung out in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon outside.

Long afternoon nap (someone insisted that she would wake up in time for evening festivities. Set the alarm? Pish posh. Sorry, Mary)
Friday: "Ummm...we are looking for the nuns who sell sweets..." Plaza de Toros guided tour in English and Spanish. Somehow, the Spanish version was funnier. Alas. Bullfighting=not my favorite sport, I don't think. Then we went to the Cathedral. Also pretty cool, more art, Guinness world record plaque for the cathedral with the largest volume or something. After that, we went on an expedition to find some nuns Mary had read about who sell candy. We found the convent, finally, but the door was closed. Some ladies tried to help us find the nuns, and we followed them through the streets of Seville until we found some nuns...but no candy. We had ice cream and flan and a third dessert to make up for it, though. All's well that ends well. We were SUPPOSED to go see Flamenco dancing that night, but our reservations didn't work out somehow, perhaps because a certain hostel owner thought that it was Thursday...
Saturday: Back to Madrid The bus ride was only eventful because 1) I finally got to see some of the bull shaped billboards Mary told me about

and 2) we got stuck in traffic, but the jam wasn't caused by an accident or construction, but by the GUARDIA CIVIL, who got on our bus with their HUGE GUNS and looked for...someone. Glad it wasn't us. Met Kat and Jill and went out for tortilla and salchicha and potatoes, possibly the most disgustingly fat-laden meal of my life.Yuuuuum.
Sunday: A United Station once more Plane ride back: stuck in the middle of a German family with two babies--not much sleep. And, from Atlanta to Nashville, KEITH URBAN, Country Singer Extraordinaire was on my flight
(Famous Person Sighting #3)

So I am back at school, and the lobby of my dorm, like much of Spain, smells of FISH. AND we have a photocopier. So I guess if I ever miss Europe, I can just go there.

Will allow me to reach new heights in the area of vanity, as I will be able to plaster my desktop, walls, etc. with pictures of myself (there is nothing else in my room that I can take pictures of)
3) new car
A Pontiac Grand Prix (which Mom likes to pronounce "pricks"). It looks pretty much like this, but a slightly newer model:

It has a traction control system, which works aproximately as follows:

and whose purpose is to keep me from fouling things up, traction-wise, despite my best efforts. Wherein lies its appeal. When my tires lose contact with the road due to various circumstances, e.g., dampness or iciness, the car asks itself a series of questions, the answers to which allow it to compensate for my stupidity. There is also some degree of self-preservation on the part of the Grand Prix involved, as I tend to crash into walls when my tires are not properly touching the pavement.
4)new glasses
I am officially a geek. And nearsighted. Here are my eyes wearing my glasses:

5)new ability to incorporate pictures into the LiveJournal.
I promise not to abuse my newfound power after today.
6)new classes
Which start tomorrow morning. Nothing terribly interesting, but que sera sera.
I was listening to the radio tonight, and the DJ said something about "remembering Robert Palmer," and then played "Simply Irresistible." My first thought was, "Oh my gosh--Robert Palmer died?? That CAN'T be. He's not that old. They must be remembering him because it is his birthday or something. Perhaps it is an 'All-Robert-Palmer-Weekend' at Lightning 100, and they are playing a marathon of nothing but the hits of Robert Palmer. Maybe next they will play "Addicted to Love." And then..."Simply Irresistible" again."
But no, my friends assured me that there is no way they would say Remembering Robert Palmer if he were still alive. When I got home, I decided to do some research, and find out if he had somehow died over the weekend.

Robert Palmer died in September of 2003. I am now angry with "Lightning 100: Nashville's Progressive Radio." They confused me. And I think it was on purpose.

So...here is how much I suck:
Today is the first day of Thanksgiving break...one entire blissful week of NO SCHOOL and getting to see my family and such...fun times, yes? AND I was going to be a big kid and drive myself all the way home, all on my own, just like the real grown-ups do. So I made some new CDs and bought a book on tape, and even left EARLY 'cause I woke up and wasn't sleepy anymore. On the road for, maybe, five and a half hours, singin' along with the radio, just fine.
Then everything went south. Very quickly.
I was in Jackson, MS, on I-20 on a bridge, and it was raining. Which is all fine, until someone loses control of her car and crashes into a concrete barrier. Which someone DEFINITELY did. I think what happened was the following: The car hydro-planed, and started drifting to the right, so I steered left to get back into my own lane, but this was not to be, and instead, the car SPUN AROUND ONE-HUNDRED-AND-EIGHTY DEGREES AND CRASHED INTO A WALL. A WALL. AFTER SPINNING ALL THE WAY AROUND.
Sooo...
My car is a bit of a wreck, and Dad had to come get me from a truck stop in Jackson, where I spent a good three and a half hours, and I had to find another ride back to school.
Every cloud has a silver lining or three, however:
1) The Adrienne remained completely undamaged, except for a bruise on her knee, because she drives too close to the wheel.
2)I got to ride in the back of a police car!
3)I no longer have to explain the (much smaller) scratches that cars tend to accumulate when you accidentally bump them into poles in the parking garage.
So, all is well that ends well, and perhaps I will even survive the rest of the semester without mishap (which should be easier with the car out of commission for a while)

SOMETIMES I THINK THAT THE ENTIRE WORLD IS INCOMPETENT. It makes me want to go over to the Kaplan office and YELL BAD WORDS at whoever is there right now. Especially the F-word, I think. Unfortunately, I can't do that. At least, not until AFTER the bastards pay me. For the first time. For more than two months of work. AND NOW, I can't get into the stupid system to do my stupid sexual harrassment workshop (because otherwise I am going to molest the seventeen-year-olds for sure) because SOMEONE over there didn't spell my name right, and there are a WHOLE LOT of permutations of "Schlichtemier," and I'm not willing to try EVERY ONE of them in order to find my actual password. [adrienne yells a gigantic yell of frustration] [but only in her head, cause they frown upon yells of this sort at the dorm].

On a much happier note, I got to play SKEE-BALL on Saturday! and AIR HOCKEY! AND the air hockey table into which we put our money didn't have a puck, which was originally a bad thing, because it meant we couldn't play, and people kept coming up to the table and asking if we were going to play, as though we had put money in the darn thing and then just stood next to it to feel the wind from the table in our hair. So the man from the arcade had to come give us a puck and opened up the machine so we didn't have to pay again, and this is when it became a good thing, because we got THREE FREE GAMES: ) Unfortunately, I only won one. I need to start playing people less good than me...

There--I feel better : )

    <lj:music>Paul Simon--50 Ways to Leave Your Lover</lj:music>

Should be writing a paper on how, when Jane Austen parodied the Gothic novel in Northanger Abbey, she ended up writing one herself. Not much inspired by this topic, so I am writing this business instead. SHOULD have written said paper on Saturday, but instead proceeded to waste the entire day in doing I-am-not-sure-what. Excellent.
Here is what's up:
1. I had to teach SAT class yesterday, but when I went to my car to drive there, the battery in my key was apparently gone, so it wouldn't unlock the door. Adrienne, that primitive soul, felt that this shouldn't REALLY be too much of a stumbling block, as she owns plenty of keys that function with no battery power whatsoever. So I put the key in the lock and turn it. AND THE ALARM STARTS GOING AND WILL NOT STOP. FOR TEN MINUTES. IN A GARAGE. WHICH HAS MARVELOUS ACOUSTICS. This led to a massive headache and to my arriving somewhat late to class, as I had to go back to my room to get my key that wasn't out of batteries. So I am taking my car this week to have the alarm uninstalled. Let this be a lesson to anyone who thinks it might be a good idea to screw with me.
2. I am officially going to MADRID for spring break to visit one, Mary Roche. And to England to study this summer. Assuming I don't fail out of school for not writing this paper...
3. My last name is officially spelled WRONG. It needs an extra E after the M. If I had had that E, I would have been tied with Matthew Mastrodomenico in elementary school. The bastard.
4. LOTS of fun things coming up at school--Nickel Creek and Howie Day on Friday night, as well as a Drag Show. The Girl Next Door plays this weekend at the university cinema. Robert Randolph and the Family Band on Oct. 20 at Uptown Mix--fun times--it is good to have some interesting things to do! Now I just need to find someone with whom to DO them all.

I suppose that is it, especially since what there was wasn't much...
