7:10 pm - News Flash...
Though all evidence (aside from my utter lack of experience) pointed to the contrary, I fear I will never be a professional golfer. DO NOT look for me on the LPGA tour.

I have, however, finished FIVE OF SIX law school applications. Now for the offers to start rolling in...

with your Christmas vacation? )

In other news:
1)We had UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS working at our house to dig a hole for our new plumbing!! Mom kept trying to get me to speak Spanish with them, but I refused, 'cause I don't know all the words.
2)4 of 6 law school applications sent out. On my way to some semblance of a future. I win!!
3)Back to school in less than a week for ONE LAST SEMESTER. (ack!)
4)Going to Colorado again this summer (Adrienne does a small dance). Well, not officially yet, but I, for one, am completely decided.

S'pose that's all--check ya later!

11:00 pm - This One's for the Redhead in the Corner...
So, it has been quite a while since I updated, as I keep hearing from a certain friend of mine. So, here is the abridged version of my life for the past few months:

Bad stuff:
1)Law school applications constantly looming over my head

Adrienne's Brain: Hey! You need to work on those applications
Adrienne's General Idiocy: Oh yeah. I will do that soon.
Adrienne's Brain: If you are not going to ensure that you have some semblance of a future, you should at LEAST catch up on some homework.
Adrienne's General Idiocy: Hmmm...how about a nap first??

2)The ruining of things that didn't require it (could be more specific, but those who have heard it don't want to anymore, and those who haven't are DEFINITELY not interested)

Adrienne's Brain: This is a bad idea...you should just go home and reconsider what you are about to say
Adrienne's General Idiocy: (screws stuff up)

3)Classes I never should have taken

Prof: Well, Adrienne, I think what we have here is a failure to communicate.
Adrienne's General Idiocy: (cries)

Shouldn't have taken it because I SHOULD be taking one more Spanish class and GRADUATING in December. But I didn't have my ducks in a row last spring when I was figuring things out. Oh well.

So that's all the bad. But wait, there's more...GOOD THINGS!:

1)My baby brother lives in Nashville now!!! Which is much fun, cause we get to go to dinner together and stuff, and Joel is almost always up for pizza, because that is the kind of brother he is. Turns out he is a cool kid, and willing to put up with the goofy crap I do (prancing down the street to Michaelangelo's and dancing [flailing] wildly in the car when I pick him up at the Belmont campus, por ejemplo)
(ooo--Bad Thing 4)Roommates think he is HOT, and all the time ask when he is coming over and stuff--way gross)

2)Just worked out a schedule for next semester, and things look pretty good--I get to take classes with profs. that I know I like, and only one can't be taken pass/fail should the need arise. PLUS, I think I am going to get a J-O-B in the spring--perhaps teaching LSATs for Kaplan or something equally awesome...

3)Going to be living where I wanted to from the beginning next semester--Though it will be hard to leave behind my KING-SIZED bed, it will be most excellent to live near all my buddies with only ONE other person in the bathroom/kitchen/common area. PLUS, that one other person is Anne, who is generally way cool.

4)Almost Christmas--I am about to DIE of no break. I don't count Thanksgiving as break, because I am going to be stuck at school for four days and I need to be doing work during that time anyway. But CHRISTMAS--that is a break.

5)Turns out I am the queen of accidentally finding places. Never ceases to amaze Joeybaby how I can get someplace with nothing but sheer dumb luck to guide me. Plus, it's always a pleasant surprise for yours truly:)

6)Already looking forward to Colorado next summer--IF I can survive the rest of this year.

I think that is all...more good than bad, as per usual. I hope that [info]girlnamedmaria's pain will be eased ;)

10:51 pm - the week in review
Monday: Still sleepy from Spring Break. Still wishing I was on Spring Break. Surprised to find out that I have papers to write and exams to take in the near future. Watched Black Robe, a film about Jesuits in Canada, for my Iberian Empire class. What's that you say? Canada wasn't really part of the Iberian Empire? This is true, but the movie was meant (I believe) to demonstrate the plight of the Jesuits all over the Americas. And also to nearly make me SICK, because at one point a woman is shot through the NECK with an ARROW, and they don't warn you that it's coming with musical cues or anything so that you can hide your eyes. Booo, makers of Black Robe. Made my stomach turn.
Wednesday: St. Patrick's Day Party!! Because Kristin was going to New York, we celebrated early, with green cake, green punch, and green tea ice cream (which was sort of mixing ethnicities, yes, but it was both green and delicious, so it was okay)(Now that I look at the word "ethnicities," I am not so certain that it exists...) There were also really great decorations:

I'm a specialist--what can I say?
Thursday: Actual St. Patrick's day. Wore green until after I worked out, because the weather changed and it was too warm for my green sweater. Went to a place called "McDoogle's" for dinner, which wasn't precisely Irish, but it did have the prefix "Mc" the name, so it was decided that that was good enough.
Friday: Dave Barnes and Andy Davis live and in concert! Much fun, except that SOME people thought that Chili's would be better for dinner than delicious Mellow Mushroom pizza, which is categorically untrue; Chili's is much less good and much less psychedelic than Mellow Mushroom. So I had Lucky Charms for dinner, which isn't as bad as it may sound to some, because I really like Lucky Charms. Party afterward--Adrienne is not so much into the "partying" of late, but she chatted with some very nice kids.
Saturday: Was going to be super-cool and awesome and change Britt's tire, but the lug nuts were rusted tight, and we couldn't budge them. Nor could the boys we called to help us. Fortunately, some lady came by and loaned us her Triple-A fellow, who managed. Was supposed to work out after changing the tire, but that took longer than expected, so I had a late lunch of pizza instead--pretty sure the two activities are nearly equivalent. Went to the bookstore and picked up Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose for history class, even though "The Name of the Rose" sounds like it should be the title of some Goth kid's website...I will most likely name my fourth-born son "Umberto," after Hamish and the other ones who I can't remember right now. About to read and find some fooood, even though it is nearly eleven o'clock at night, and I should be in bed soon.

The Rain in Spain... )

So I am back at school, and the lobby of my dorm, like much of Spain, smells of FISH. AND we have a photocopier. So I guess if I ever miss Europe, I can just go there.

Good News:

Bad News:
the King Cake people HID the baby, so I didn't realize that it was not already in the cake, so my friends, all of whom were desperate to find the baby never had a chance. (tee hee)

In non-food-related news, I have been up to much of late:

  • Hip-hop dance class. I am soooo badass

  • Glass-bead-making workshop. I have learned that I was never fated to be an artisan. Alas.

  • Actually making headway in the search for a career/life's purpose. This may work out after all...

  • I am the proud owner of not one, but three new slogans, thanks to a certain Miss Mary Roche, who is not so good at pretending to be other people as she thinks she is.

  • All of my friends are turning the big 2-1 slowly but surely. NOT ME. They are all OOOOLD

  • Rock-climbing tomorrow. We'll see how it goes this time.

11:06 pm - She used to look good to me, but now...
new year, new things )
I was listening to the radio tonight, and the DJ said something about "remembering Robert Palmer," and then played "Simply Irresistible." My first thought was, "Oh my gosh--Robert Palmer died?? That CAN'T be. He's not that old. They must be remembering him because it is his birthday or something. Perhaps it is an 'All-Robert-Palmer-Weekend' at Lightning 100, and they are playing a marathon of nothing but the hits of Robert Palmer. Maybe next they will play "Addicted to Love." And then..."Simply Irresistible" again."
But no, my friends assured me that there is no way they would say Remembering Robert Palmer if he were still alive. When I got home, I decided to do some research, and find out if he had somehow died over the weekend.

Robert Palmer died in September of 2003. I am now angry with "Lightning 100: Nashville's Progressive Radio." They confused me. And I think it was on purpose.

Know what isn't cool?
When you go get coffee at 9 pm and specify that you would like DE-CAF because you know that caffeine keeps you up all night, and the Bongo Java people give you REGULAR coffee, and so you are up all night.
That.
On the brighter side, "insomniac" is a relatively productive mode. I managed to:
-take a diagnostic GRE
-read a book
-decide to become a relief worker in Africa (HA! wonder what the parents would say about THAT one)
Also, going HOME tomorrow! after I finish my last final, which may or may not do me in.

8:17 pm
So...here is how much I suck:
Today is the first day of Thanksgiving break...one entire blissful week of NO SCHOOL and getting to see my family and such...fun times, yes? AND I was going to be a big kid and drive myself all the way home, all on my own, just like the real grown-ups do. So I made some new CDs and bought a book on tape, and even left EARLY 'cause I woke up and wasn't sleepy anymore. On the road for, maybe, five and a half hours, singin' along with the radio, just fine.
Then everything went south. Very quickly.
I was in Jackson, MS, on I-20 on a bridge, and it was raining. Which is all fine, until someone loses control of her car and crashes into a concrete barrier. Which someone DEFINITELY did. I think what happened was the following: The car hydro-planed, and started drifting to the right, so I steered left to get back into my own lane, but this was not to be, and instead, the car SPUN AROUND ONE-HUNDRED-AND-EIGHTY DEGREES AND CRASHED INTO A WALL. A WALL. AFTER SPINNING ALL THE WAY AROUND.
Sooo...
My car is a bit of a wreck, and Dad had to come get me from a truck stop in Jackson, where I spent a good three and a half hours, and I had to find another ride back to school.
Every cloud has a silver lining or three, however:
1) The Adrienne remained completely undamaged, except for a bruise on her knee, because she drives too close to the wheel.
2)I got to ride in the back of a police car!
3)I no longer have to explain the (much smaller) scratches that cars tend to accumulate when you accidentally bump them into poles in the parking garage.
So, all is well that ends well, and perhaps I will even survive the rest of the semester without mishap (which should be easier with the car out of commission for a while)

current mood: stupid girl!
